8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The 50th anniversary of the development of in-situ |

9 | 9 | | recovery technology is taking place on April 10, 2025, marking half |

10 | 10 | | a century of innovation and progress in uranium extraction; and |

11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The first commercial ISR project was carried out at |
---|
12 | 12 | | the Clay West site in South Texas, and over the years, the method |
---|
13 | 13 | | was shaped by pioneers from such major companies as Union Carbide |
---|
14 | 14 | | Corporation, Westinghouse, and U.S. Steel; today, ISR accounts for |
---|
15 | 15 | | more than 50 percent of global uranium production, providing a |
---|
16 | 16 | | critical fuel source for the nuclear energy sector; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This solution-based technology eliminates the need |
---|
18 | 18 | | for traditional mining by extracting uranium directly from |
---|
19 | 19 | | underground ore bodies, minimizing surface disruption, reducing |
---|
20 | 20 | | costs, and ensuring a safer process for workers; in addition, ISR |
---|
21 | 21 | | operations in the U.S. have demonstrated remarkable environmental |
---|
22 | 22 | | stewardship, utilizing groundwater mixed with oxygen and sodium |
---|
23 | 23 | | bicarbonate in a manner that allows for full reclamation and |

24 | 24 | | restoration of the land and water to their original use; and |

25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In the five decades since its inception, ISR has |
---|
26 | 26 | | transformed the field of uranium extraction, setting new global |
---|
27 | 27 | | benchmarks for efficiency, sustainability, and economic viability; |

28 | 28 | | now, therefore, be it |

29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the |
---|
31 | 31 | | commercial development and operation of in-situ recovery |
---|
32 | 32 | | technology and commend all those associated with its founding. |
