8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians is |

9 | 9 | | celebrating its 20th anniversary on September 23, 2025, with the |
---|
10 | 10 | | organization's annual fundraiser, HAAM Day; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 2005 by Robin Shivers, HAAM provides |
---|
12 | 12 | | access to affordable health care for low-income, uninsured and |
---|
13 | 13 | | underinsured working musicians, DJs, and music teachers in Travis |
---|
14 | 14 | | County and surrounding areas; these services include doctor visits, |
---|
15 | 15 | | prescriptions, routine dental work, psychiatric counseling, eye |
---|
16 | 16 | | exams, outpatient procedures, specialist referrals, and hearing |
---|
17 | 17 | | screenings; over the years, the organization has served nearly |
---|
18 | 18 | | 7,000 people and connected musicians to more than $191 million in |
---|
19 | 19 | | health care services, and today, over 90 percent of its members have |
---|
20 | 20 | | obtained health insurance through HAAM Open Enrollment; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In 2023, HAAM opened a headquarters in South Central |
---|
22 | 22 | | Austin that encompasses hearing screening rooms, spaces to host |
---|
23 | 23 | | educational workshops and networking events, a stage for live |
---|
24 | 24 | | performances, and a musician resource center with computers, |
---|
25 | 25 | | printers, and high-speed Internet access; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the nonprofit holds HAAM Day, a |
---|
27 | 27 | | celebration that features performances at multiple venues in the |
---|
28 | 28 | | greater Austin area; the event raises hundreds of thousands of |
---|
29 | 29 | | dollars, and local restaurants, bars, and shops pledge a percentage |
---|
30 | 30 | | of sales to benefit the group; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, For two decades, HAAM has provided affordable health |
---|
32 | 32 | | care assistance to the working artists that make Austin the "Live |
---|
33 | 33 | | Music Capital of the World," and this milestone represents a |
---|
34 | 34 | | fitting opportunity to recognize the organization's worthy |
---|
35 | 35 | | mission; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby honor the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians |
---|
38 | 38 | | on its 20th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the |
---|
39 | 39 | | group sincere best wishes for continued success with their |
---|
40 | 40 | | important work; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

42 | 42 | | prepared for HAAM as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
---|
43 | 43 | | of Representatives. |
