77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
99 recognize the state's county treasurers and to join them in
1010 celebrating April 8, 2025, as Texas County Treasurers Day at the
1111 State Capitol; and
1212 WHEREAS, Elected by voters for four-year terms, county
1313 treasurers fulfill a range of duties as prescribed by the Texas
1414 Local Government Code and County Commissioners Courts; and
1515 WHEREAS, There are currently 244 county treasurers in Texas,
1616 and two-thirds serve in rural counties with fewer than 25,000
1717 residents; these dedicated public officials serve as chief
1818 custodians of county finances and are tasked with receiving,
1919 disbursing, and providing oversight of all county funds; and
2020 WHEREAS, In addition to performing explicit statutory
2121 duties, county treasurers serve as the chief liaison between their
2222 county and depository banks, and many help to meet their county's
2323 unique needs by providing versatile services; these may include
2424 services in such areas as human resource administration, auditing,
2525 and payroll management, and county treasurers are often entrusted
2626 with providing treasurer duties for various county entities; and
2727 WHEREAS, Texas County Treasurers Day serves as an opportunity
2828 for these esteemed public servants to engage with legislators,
2929 advocate on behalf of their communities, and assist in the
3030 legislative process by offering expertise in the fiduciary aspects
3131 of county governance; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3333 Legislature hereby recognize April 8, 2025, as Texas County
3434 Treasurers Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
3535 delegation sincere best wishes for a memorable visit to Austin.
