7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Citizens of Erath County are gathering at the State |

8 | 9 | | Capitol on April 10, 2025, to celebrate Erath County Day; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Formed in 1856, Erath County is named for |
---|
10 | 11 | | George B. Erath, an original surveyor of the area; cotton farming |
---|
11 | 12 | | was an important early industry, and fruit orchards, dairy and |
---|
12 | 13 | | poultry farms, and other agricultural ventures later became |
---|
13 | 14 | | prominent; coal mining also provided jobs, and the Thurber Brick |
---|
14 | 15 | | Company was established in 1918 to manufacture such materials as |
---|
15 | 16 | | tile and paving bricks; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The seat of Erath County, Stephenville is situated |
---|
17 | 18 | | along the Bosque River; it was named in honor of John M. Stephen, |
---|
18 | 19 | | who settled there in 1854 and donated land for the townsite; |
---|
19 | 20 | | Stephenville has received the Main Street designation from the |
---|
20 | 21 | | Texas Historical Commission, and the 1892 Erath County Courthouse |
---|
21 | 22 | | designed by James Riely Gordon is renowned for its beauty; serving |
---|
22 | 23 | | as a hub for the area's agricultural operations, Stephenville is |
---|
23 | 24 | | also the site of medical facilities and retail businesses, with a |
---|
24 | 25 | | range of manufacturers, including Fortune 500 companies, adding |
---|
25 | 26 | | economic diversity to the community; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Stephenville Independent School District serves |
---|
27 | 28 | | approximately 3,600 students at three elementary schools, an |
---|
28 | 29 | | intermediate school and junior high school, and Stephenville High |
---|
29 | 30 | | School; the district places a strong emphasis on the core values of |
---|
30 | 31 | | initiative, integrity, and growth in preparing students for the |
---|
31 | 32 | | challenges and opportunities of the future; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The county is also home to two higher education |
---|
33 | 34 | | facilities, Ranger College and Tarleton State University, which is |
---|
34 | 35 | | a four-year institution that was established in 1899; a member of |
---|
35 | 36 | | The Texas A&M University System, Tarleton boasts an enrollment of |
---|
36 | 37 | | more than 17,000 students and offers over 100 undergraduate and |
---|
37 | 38 | | graduate degree plans; made up of seven academic colleges and four |
---|
38 | 39 | | schools, the university offers a number of doctoral degrees and |
---|
39 | 40 | | expanded online programs; and |
---|
40 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Beloved for its rich Western heritage and rural |
---|
41 | 42 | | friendliness, Erath County is one of the treasures of Texas, and its |
---|
42 | 43 | | citizens may indeed take pride in the place they call home; now, |
---|
43 | 44 | | therefore, be it |

44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 10, 2025, as Erath County Day at |
---|
46 | 47 | | the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
---|
47 | 48 | | delegation. |
