| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Association of Counties are |

| 9 | 9 | | gathering on April 29, 2025, for County Government Day at the State |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The National Association of Counties has designated |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | April 2025 as National County Government Month in an effort to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | highlight the essential work of county government; formed in 1969, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the Texas Association of Counties represents all 254 of the state's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | counties and has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | improving and promoting the value of county government; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, County government is one of the oldest forms of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | government in the United States, and it is one of the most |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | responsive and transparent levels, led by officials who live and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | work in the communities they serve; its many critical |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | responsibilities include providing public safety and justice, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | holding elections and registering voters, maintaining citizens' |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | most important records, offering emergency management services, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | providing health services, collecting property taxes, and building |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and maintaining roads, bridges, and other infrastructure; TAC |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | facilitates greater efficiency in county government by supporting |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the endeavors of county officials, and it offers its members |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | training and education opportunities and gathers information on |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | issues and best practices; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Each day, county officials work diligently to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | improve the quality of life for local residents, and by enabling |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | county governments to join together to achieve better solutions, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the Texas Association of Counties helps to strengthen communities |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | all across the state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 29, 2025, as County Government |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the members of |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | the Texas Association of Counties. |
