8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

9 | 9 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |

10 | 10 | | of Roy Leonard Grant Sr. of Houston, who passed away on March 30, |

11 | 11 | | 2025, at the age of 85; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Born in Chester on September 20, 1939, to Ezell |
---|
13 | 13 | | Grant and Doris Wells, Roy Grant grew up with the companionship of |
---|
14 | 14 | | two sisters, Gloria and Nelvia; he graduated from Chester High |
---|
15 | 15 | | School, and he went on to enlist in the U.S. Army in 1969 and to |
---|
16 | 16 | | complete a tour of duty in Germany; after concluding his military |
---|
17 | 17 | | service, he worked as a pipefitter at the Goodyear Chemical plant |
---|
18 | 18 | | for 35 years before retiring; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In 1963, Mr. Grant exchanged vows with the love of |
---|
20 | 20 | | his life, Bobbie Jean Grant, and the couple shared a rewarding |
---|
21 | 21 | | marriage that spanned 54 years until her passing in 2017; Mr. Grant |
---|
22 | 22 | | took great pride in his daughters, Cynthia, Barbara, and Bridgette, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and his sons, Roy and Ira; with the passing years, he saw his |
---|
24 | 24 | | treasured family grow to include 23 grandchildren and 36 |
---|
25 | 25 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Grant was involved in numerous organizations in |
---|
27 | 27 | | Northeast Houston; his volunteer efforts included service as a |
---|
28 | 28 | | member of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform |
---|
29 | 29 | | Now, as the commissioner of the East Houston Athletic Club, as |
---|
30 | 30 | | president of Smokey Jasper Park, and as a board member for the East |
---|
31 | 31 | | Houston Civic Club and the Lakewood Park Advisory Committee; his |
---|
32 | 32 | | interest in civic affairs was also reflected in his work with State |
---|
33 | 33 | | Representative Senfronia Thompson, U.S. Representative Sheila |
---|
34 | 34 | | Jackson Lee, and other elected officials; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Roy Grant will |
---|
36 | 36 | | forever remember his kindness, his leadership, and his service to |
---|
37 | 37 | | his community, and his legacy will continue to be appreciated for |
---|
38 | 38 | | many years to come; now, therefore, be it |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roy Leonard Grant |

41 | 41 | | Sr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to |

42 | 42 | | his daughters, Cynthia Grant and her husband, Clifford, Barbara |
