| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Refugio County are gathering in |

| 8 | 9 | | Austin on April 16, 2025, to celebrate Refugio County Day at the |

| 9 | 10 | | State Capitol; and |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Situated in the Coastal Prairies region along the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | lower Gulf Coast, Refugio County was organized as one of the 13 |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | original counties of the Republic of Texas, with the town of Refugio |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | as its county seat; both the town and county are named for Nuestra |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Señora del Refugio Mission, which was founded in the area in 1793 |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and remained in operation until 1830; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Agriculture is a leading industry in Refugio County, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and the area serves as an important source of livestock, sorghum, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | cotton, corn, wheat, and hay; the county has also reaped economic |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | benefits derived from the region's natural resources, including |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | petroleum, natural gas, and industrial sand; in addition, hunters |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | are drawn to the county for its diverse wildlife; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, Refugio County is home to approximately 6,700 |

| 23 | 24 | | people; residents and visitors alike have enjoyed attending annual |

| 24 | 25 | | events hosted by the town of Refugio, such as the Refugio County |

| 25 | 26 | | Fair; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Refugio County benefits from the dedicated |

| 27 | 28 | | leadership of its elected officials, including county judge Jhiela |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | "Gigi" Poynter and county commissioners Roy Payne, Gary Wright, and |

| 29 | 30 | | Blaine Wolfshohl; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The people of Refugio County take great pride in |

| 31 | 32 | | their rich history as they work together to build an even brighter |

| 32 | 33 | | future, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for their unique |

| 33 | 34 | | contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 16, 2025, as Refugio County Day |

| 36 | 37 | | at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
