| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Southwest Independent School District Penguin |

| 9 | 9 | | Project was honored with a 2025 Magna Silver Award at the National |

| 10 | 10 | | School Boards Association annual conference, held April 4-6, 2025, |

| 11 | 11 | | in Atlanta, Georgia; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Now in its third year, the Penguin Project is a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | musical theater program that pairs neurodiverse learners with a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | peer mentor who serves as their guide and partner throughout the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | production; these students with exceptionalities are able to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | showcase their abilities and passion in a supportive environment, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and mentors develop invaluable leadership and empathy skills while |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | gaining experience in community service; by creating meaningful, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | inclusive opportunities for them to fully participate in the arts, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the program celebrates and empowers neurodiverse children; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A collaborative effort, the project also includes |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | parents, families, and teachers in every aspect of the production, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | from costume and set design to emotional and logistical support |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | during rehearsals; in addition, the program has seen a nearly 100 |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | percent retention rate of students returning for multiple seasons; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, True to its mission, the Penguin Project has helped |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | to build confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging for many |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | young Texans, and it is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Southwest Independent School |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | District Penguin Project on receiving a 2025 Magna Silver Award |
