7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Victoria College is celebrating its 100th |

8 | 9 | | anniversary in 2025; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In February 1925, the trustees of the Victoria |
---|
10 | 11 | | Independent School District voted to establish Victoria Junior |
---|
11 | 12 | | College as an extension of Patti Welder High School; fifty-one |
---|
12 | 13 | | students began attending classes on the third floor of the school |
---|
13 | 14 | | that September; later, a college annex was added to the building; |
---|
14 | 15 | | and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The college moved to its present-day site on Red |
---|
16 | 17 | | River Street in 1949 under an independent board of trustees and a |
---|
17 | 18 | | new name, the Victoria College; facilities included an |
---|
18 | 19 | | administration building with classrooms, a library, a gymnasium, a |
---|
19 | 20 | | student union, an athletic dormitory, and home economics and |
---|
20 | 21 | | industrial arts buildings; between 1958 and 1975, the size of the |
---|
21 | 22 | | campus doubled and many new facilities were completed, among them |
---|
22 | 23 | | an auditorium, a field house, and science, health, and fine arts |
---|
23 | 24 | | buildings; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Victoria College expanded its |
---|
25 | 26 | | adult education, workforce training, and dual enrollment |
---|
26 | 27 | | offerings; the institution now serves more than 7,000 students |
---|
27 | 28 | | annually; the 60-acre Main Campus has 16 buildings, and the college |
---|
28 | 29 | | also operates the Zelda L. Allen School of Nursing in |
---|
29 | 30 | | Hallettsville, the Museum of the Coastal Bend, the Gonzales Center, |
---|
30 | 31 | | the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts, the Liberty Street |
---|
31 | 32 | | Industrial Training Center, and the Emerging Technology Complex; |
---|
32 | 33 | | construction of the new Student Success Center is scheduled for |
---|
33 | 34 | | completion by the end of 2025; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Victoria College is committed to providing a |
---|
35 | 36 | | high-quality education while maintaining costs at a third of the |
---|
36 | 37 | | average state university; numerous programs lead to high-demand |
---|
37 | 38 | | careers in such fields as industrial trade, business, public |
---|
38 | 39 | | service, technology, and health care; the administration is guided |
---|
39 | 40 | | by the motto "Our Community, Our College: Improving Lives, |
---|
40 | 41 | | Strengthening Communities," and 70 percent of graduates continue to |
---|
41 | 42 | | live and work in the service area; and |
---|
42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, Victoria College has been a |
---|
43 | 44 | | catalyst for educational attainment, economic growth, and cultural |
---|
44 | 45 | | enrichment, and this milestone in its history provides a welcome |
---|
45 | 46 | | opportunity to celebrate its contributions to the prosperity and |
---|
46 | 47 | | vibrancy of the community; now, therefore, be it |
---|
47 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
48 | 49 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Victoria |
---|
49 | 50 | | College and extend to all those associated with the institution |
---|
50 | 51 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
51 | 52 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
52 | 53 | | prepared for the college as an expression of high regard by the |

53 | 54 | | Texas House of Representatives. |
