77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, The Ganado High School football team earned the
99 mantle of state champion by winning the 2024 University
1010 Interscholastic League 2A Division 1 state title game; and
1111 WHEREAS, The Indians began their journey to the championship
1212 by going 9-1 in the regular season and clinching the district title
1313 with an unblemished record; next delivering a dominant performance
1414 in the playoffs, they bested Skidmore-Tynan, Crawford, Refugio, and
1515 Marlin High Schools to reach the state semifinals; there, Ganado
1616 dispatched Joaquin High School 35-14 to secure a coveted berth in
1717 the state final; and
1818 WHEREAS, Ganado took the field against top-ranked Stamford
1919 High School at AT&T Stadium in Arlington; the Indians held a
2020 seven-point advantage at halftime and led by the same margin going
2121 into the final frame; with the game knotted at 21-all at the end of
2222 regulation, Ganado headed for overtime; a touchdown run put the
2323 Indians ahead in the first OT, and their opponent then responded
2424 with a scoring throw, tying the contest at 28-28; a scoreless second
2525 OT set the stage for an exciting finish in the third extra period to
2626 be determined by two-point conversion tries; a completed pass again
2727 put Ganado in the lead, and with the title on the line, the team
2828 intercepted a pass to seal the win; with the 30-28 victory, Ganado
2929 claimed the first state championship in program history and capped
3030 the year with an outstanding 15-1 record; and
3131 WHEREAS, Bryce Ullman was named the title game's Offensive
3232 Most Valuable Player after accounting for three touchdowns, and
3333 Defensive MVP Cain Hayden collected three tackles and two
3434 interceptions; over the course of their campaign, the Indians
3535 received valuable contributions from each member of the roster, and
3636 these determined student-athletes benefited from the direction of
3737 head coach Josh Ervin and his assistant coaches; and
3838 WHEREAS, Through countless hours of hard work and an
3939 unwavering commitment to excellence, the Ganado Indians realized
4040 their season-long goal of becoming state champions, and they will
4141 treasure the memory of this accomplishment for the rest of their
4242 lives; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4444 Legislature hereby congratulate the Ganado High School football
4545 team on winning the 2024 UIL 2A Division 1 state championship and
4646 extend to all those associated with the squad sincere best wishes
4747 for the future; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5050 House of Representatives.
