67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Citizens of Houston are paying homage to the work of
89 an admired community leader with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the
910 opening of the Rabbi Samuel Karff Memorial Bridge on
1011 February 8, 2025; and
1112 WHEREAS, Located over Brays Bayou Greenway, the
1213 634-linear-foot bridge will connect area neighborhoods, parks, and
1314 green spaces; maintained by the Houston Parks Board, the $3 million
1415 project will provide a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists; and
1516 WHEREAS, The bridge is named in honor of the late Rabbi Samuel
1617 Karff, who served as the senior rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel,
1718 the oldest Jewish house of worship in Texas, from 1975 to 1999;
1819 dedicated to fostering understanding and unity, he often worked
1920 across communities and denominations to promote civil rights,
2021 social justice, and equality; and
2122 WHEREAS, Through his leadership and civic engagement, Rabbi
2223 Samuel Karff helped to make his community a more equitable place for
2324 all, and the dedication of this bridge in his honor will serve as a
2425 lasting tribute to his inspiring legacy; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby commemorate the opening of the Rabbi Samuel
2728 Karff Memorial Bridge and commend all those involved for their
2829 efforts in bringing this project to fruition.
