| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Citizens of Houston are paying homage to the work of |

| 8 | 9 | | an admired community leader with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the |

| 9 | 10 | | opening of the Rabbi Samuel Karff Memorial Bridge on |

| 10 | 11 | | February 8, 2025; and |

| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Located over Brays Bayou Greenway, the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | 634-linear-foot bridge will connect area neighborhoods, parks, and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | green spaces; maintained by the Houston Parks Board, the $3 million |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | project will provide a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The bridge is named in honor of the late Rabbi Samuel |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Karff, who served as the senior rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the oldest Jewish house of worship in Texas, from 1975 to 1999; |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | dedicated to fostering understanding and unity, he often worked |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | across communities and denominations to promote civil rights, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | social justice, and equality; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Through his leadership and civic engagement, Rabbi |

| 22 | 23 | | Samuel Karff helped to make his community a more equitable place for |

| 23 | 24 | | all, and the dedication of this bridge in his honor will serve as a |

| 24 | 25 | | lasting tribute to his inspiring legacy; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the opening of the Rabbi Samuel |

| 27 | 28 | | Karff Memorial Bridge and commend all those involved for their |
