88 WHEREAS, The University of Texas women's basketball team
99 enjoyed an exceptional 2024-2025 season that culminated in a Final
1010 Four berth in the NCAA Division I tournament; and
1111 WHEREAS, Texas finished the regular season with a record of
1212 29-2, including a 15-1 mark in conference play and a perfect ledger
1313 of 15 wins and no losses at home; the Longhorns notched a share of
1414 the Southeastern Conference regular-season championship with their
1515 win over the University of Florida; along the way, the team secured
1616 its first No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press poll in 21 years;
1717 national voting put UT atop the weekly poll for the 49th time dating
1818 to its inaugural appearance at No. 1 in 1980; and
1919 WHEREAS, Entering the "Big Dance" as a top seed, the
2020 Longhorns bested William & Mary in the opening round and defeated
2121 the University of Illinois in the round of 32; moving on to the
2222 Sweet 16, UT dispatched conference foe Tennessee 67-59 to set up an
2323 Elite Eight showdown against second-seeded Texas Christian
2424 University; Madison Booker and Rori Harmon combined for 31 points,
2525 leading UT to a 58-47 victory over the Horned Frogs as the Longhorns
2626 punched their fourth all-time ticket to the Final Four; while Texas
2727 ultimately fell short to South Carolina in the semifinals, the team
2828 furthered the program's legacy of excellence and ended with an
2929 outstanding overall record of 35 wins and only 4 losses; and
3030 WHEREAS, Texas had numerous heroes during its 2024-2025
3131 campaign; Ms. Booker was dubbed the SEC Player of the Year,
3232 Ms. Harmon was selected for the All-Defensive Team, and Jordan Lee
3333 collected All-Freshman honors; the Longhorns also received
3434 valuable contributions over the course of the season from the other
3535 members of the roster: Kyla Oldacre, Bryanna Preston, Laila Phelia,
3636 Shay Holle, Justice Carlton, Jordana Codio, Aaliyah Moore, Sarah
3737 Graves, Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda, Taylor Jones, and Abbie
3838 Boutilier; the team was ably guided by head coach Vic Schaefer, who
3939 was named the SEC Coach of the Year; and
4040 WHEREAS, Playing with exemplary skill, determination, and
4141 teamwork, the UT women's basketball squad has earned a place among
4242 the best Division I teams in the country, and their achievements are
4343 a source of great pride for the university's students, alumni, and
4444 fans; now, therefore, be it
4545 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4646 Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas women's
4747 basketball team on advancing to the Final Four of the 2025 NCAA
4848 Division I tournament and extend to the team's players, coaches,
4949 and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
5050 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5151 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5252 House of Representatives.
