67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
89 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
910 of Sharron Lea Hoff Stewart of Lake Jackson, who passed away on July
1011 17, 2024, at the age of 85; and
1112 WHEREAS, The former Sharron Hoff was born to Muriel and Earl
1213 J. Hoff on October 18, 1938, in Tacoma, Washington, and during her
1314 youth, she developed exceptional skills in painting and drawing;
1415 after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1957,
1516 she continued her education at Southern Methodist University and
1617 Texas Christian University, earning an art degree in 1961; and
1718 WHEREAS, In the course of a successful career in education,
1819 Mrs. Stewart taught art in Fort Worth, Austin, and Henderson and
1920 served as an art advisor in the Brazosport Independent School
2021 District; she further pursued her passion for art by painting
2122 backdrops for The Little Theater of Brazosport and vessels of all
2223 sorts at the Freeport docks; a dedicated environmentalist, she gave
2324 generously of her time and talents to the Texas Environmental
2425 Coalition, the Cradle of Texas Conservancy, and the Dow Chemical
2526 Community Advisory Panel, and she held seats on the Galveston Bay
2627 Council and the National Advisory Committee on Oceans and
2728 Atmosphere; moreover, she played a vital role in the creation of the
2829 Galveston Bay Foundation and the Galveston Bay Estuary Program, and
2930 she helped to shape environmental legislative policy and to
3031 organize some of the first coordinated beach cleanup efforts on the
3132 Texas coast; in recognition of her contributions, she received a
3233 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Galveston Bay Foundation in
3334 2005; and
3435 WHEREAS, Mrs. Stewart enjoyed the love and support of her
3536 husband, Vaughan O'Neal Stewart, with whom she shared a rewarding
3637 marriage that spanned more than six decades; she took great pride in
3738 their three children, John, Leslie, and Melissa, and she was
3839 further blessed with a grandson, Satchel; and
3940 WHEREAS, While the death of Sharron Stewart brings great
4041 sadness to her family and friends, she leaves behind a legacy that
4142 will long be treasured by all those who held her dear; now,
4243 therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sharron Lea Hoff
4546 Stewart and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones; and, be it
4647 further
4748 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4849 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4950 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sharron
5051 Stewart.
