7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

9 | 10 | | of Sharron Lea Hoff Stewart of Lake Jackson, who passed away on July |

10 | 11 | | 17, 2024, at the age of 85; and |

11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The former Sharron Hoff was born to Muriel and Earl |
---|
12 | 13 | | J. Hoff on October 18, 1938, in Tacoma, Washington, and during her |
---|
13 | 14 | | youth, she developed exceptional skills in painting and drawing; |
---|
14 | 15 | | after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1957, |
---|
15 | 16 | | she continued her education at Southern Methodist University and |
---|
16 | 17 | | Texas Christian University, earning an art degree in 1961; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In the course of a successful career in education, |
---|
18 | 19 | | Mrs. Stewart taught art in Fort Worth, Austin, and Henderson and |
---|
19 | 20 | | served as an art advisor in the Brazosport Independent School |
---|
20 | 21 | | District; she further pursued her passion for art by painting |
---|
21 | 22 | | backdrops for The Little Theater of Brazosport and vessels of all |
---|
22 | 23 | | sorts at the Freeport docks; a dedicated environmentalist, she gave |
---|
23 | 24 | | generously of her time and talents to the Texas Environmental |
---|
24 | 25 | | Coalition, the Cradle of Texas Conservancy, and the Dow Chemical |
---|
25 | 26 | | Community Advisory Panel, and she held seats on the Galveston Bay |
---|
26 | 27 | | Council and the National Advisory Committee on Oceans and |
---|
27 | 28 | | Atmosphere; moreover, she played a vital role in the creation of the |
---|
28 | 29 | | Galveston Bay Foundation and the Galveston Bay Estuary Program, and |
---|
29 | 30 | | she helped to shape environmental legislative policy and to |
---|
30 | 31 | | organize some of the first coordinated beach cleanup efforts on the |
---|
31 | 32 | | Texas coast; in recognition of her contributions, she received a |
---|
32 | 33 | | Lifetime Achievement Award from the Galveston Bay Foundation in |
---|
33 | 34 | | 2005; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Stewart enjoyed the love and support of her |
---|
35 | 36 | | husband, Vaughan O'Neal Stewart, with whom she shared a rewarding |
---|
36 | 37 | | marriage that spanned more than six decades; she took great pride in |
---|
37 | 38 | | their three children, John, Leslie, and Melissa, and she was |
---|
38 | 39 | | further blessed with a grandson, Satchel; and |
---|
39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Sharron Stewart brings great |
---|
40 | 41 | | sadness to her family and friends, she leaves behind a legacy that |
---|
41 | 42 | | will long be treasured by all those who held her dear; now, |

42 | 43 | | therefore, be it |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

44 | 45 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sharron Lea Hoff |
