8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
---|
9 | 9 | | passing of Jennifer Young McNeil of Yorktown, Virginia, on |
---|
10 | 10 | | February 20, 2024, at the age of 65; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Calvin and Ella Young, the former |
---|
12 | 12 | | Jen Young was born on June 18, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | she grew up with the companionship of three brothers, Calvin, |
---|
14 | 14 | | Randy, and Drew; she graduated from Alief Hastings High School in |
---|
15 | 15 | | 1976, and in 1980, she became one of the first women to receive a |
---|
16 | 16 | | computer science degree from The University of Texas at Austin; she |
---|
17 | 17 | | went on to work in software development and later in software |
---|
18 | 18 | | project management; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In the course of a successful career, Mrs. McNeil |
---|
20 | 20 | | was employed with Texas Instruments, Electronic Data Systems, CSC, |
---|
21 | 21 | | C2 Technologies, and PulseLearning; she led the development of |
---|
22 | 22 | | complex software programs for commercial and defense customers and |
---|
23 | 23 | | oversaw the implementation of numerous training programs; among her |
---|
24 | 24 | | honors, she earned a national award for helping develop software |
---|
25 | 25 | | used to train soldiers in firing missiles; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. McNeil enjoyed the love and support of her |
---|
27 | 27 | | husband, Angus, with whom she shared a rewarding marriage of 17 |
---|
28 | 28 | | years; she took great pride in her daughters, Hope and Shannon, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | her stepsons, Will and Craig, and she was further blessed with four |
---|
30 | 30 | | grandchildren; in her leisure time, she found pleasure in |
---|
31 | 31 | | traveling, both domestically and internationally, and in reading |
---|
32 | 32 | | and gardening; sustained by her strong faith, she was a valued |
---|
33 | 33 | | member of Northside Christian Church, where she was a community |
---|
34 | 34 | | group leader and involved in a number of clubs; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Admired for her kind and caring nature and her |
---|
36 | 36 | | joyous zest for life, Jen McNeil brightened the world for all who |
---|
37 | 37 | | knew her, and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, |
---|
38 | 38 | | therefore, be it |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jennifer Young |

41 | 41 | | McNeil and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to |

42 | 42 | | her husband, Angus McNeil; to her daughters, Hope Mills and her |

43 | 43 | | husband, Josh, and Shannon Kovalevsky and her husband, Adam; to her |

44 | 44 | | stepsons, Will McNeil and his wife, Morgan, and Craig McNeil and his |

45 | 45 | | wife, Cinthia; to her grandchildren, Sofia Kovalevsky and Peter, |
