77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
99 passing of Robert Travis Wood of Concho County on February 24, 2024,
1010 at the age of 87; and
1111 WHEREAS, The son of Mary and Dola Wood, Robert Wood was born
1212 in Concho County on February 22, 1937, and he grew up with the
1313 companionship of six siblings, Mike, Jan, Judy, Gwen, Eddie, and
1414 Richard; he graduated from Paint Rock High School, where he
1515 excelled in athletics, and he attended San Angelo College before
1616 enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1958; he served for three years, and
1717 he completed his final deployment in South Korea; and
1818 WHEREAS, On December 6, 1959, Mr. Wood wed the former Glenda
1919 Jean Thomas, and the couple shared a rewarding marriage that
2020 spanned nearly 65 years; he took great pride in their two daughters,
2121 Kathy and Dawn, and he had the pleasure of seeing his treasured
2222 family grow to include eight grandchildren; and
2323 WHEREAS, After training at Texas A&M University, Mr. Wood
2424 embarked on a fulfilling career as a game warden for the Texas Parks
2525 and Wildlife Department in 1966; he completed short assignments in
2626 Houston and Abilene before moving to Ballinger in 1971, where he
2727 served Runnels County with great distinction for more than two
2828 decades; he was an exceptionally skilled member of the state's
2929 shooting teams, and in recognition of his outstanding record, he
3030 was honored as a top game warden by the Southeastern Texas Game and
3131 Fish Association; and
3232 WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Wood enjoyed raising cattle and
3333 goats and caring for the land on the Wood/Novian Ranch in Concho
3434 County, which has been in his family for more than a century; he
3535 spent many happy hours sharing his love of nature with his
3636 grandchildren, whom he taught to shoot, hunt, and fish; and
3737 WHEREAS, Robert Wood lived a caring and purposeful life, and
3838 he will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who held
3939 him close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4141 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert Travis Wood
4242 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
4343 wife, Glenda Wood; to his children, Kathy Hansen and her husband,
4444 Andy, and Dawn Sproat; to his grandchildren, Meredith, Andrew,
4545 Judge, Harris, and Margo Hansen, and Kristen, Eddie, and Kendall
4646 Sproat; to his brother, Mike Wood; and to his many other relatives
4747 and friends; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5050 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert
5151 Wood.
