| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Augusta McCray Dixon of Booker T. Washington |

| 9 | 9 | | Elementary School is celebrating her 40th anniversary with the Port |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Arthur Independent School District in 2025; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A native of Cass County, Ms. Dixon graduated in the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | top 10 percent of her high school class at just 16 years old, and she |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | became the first in her family to earn a college degree when she |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | completed her studies at Wiley College; in 1985, she began a long |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and rewarding tenure at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | where she continues to serve as a second-grade math and science |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | teacher; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Ms. Dixon has contributed in myriad |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | ways to the success of her students, and she works to make complex |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | concepts understandable and to foster critical thinking skills, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | confidence, and perseverance; beyond the classroom, her support has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | extended to providing students with clothing, school supplies, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | other assistance; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, An invaluable member of the Booker T. Washington |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | faculty, Ms. Dixon has participated in school-wide initiatives |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | ranging from curriculum development to student clubs; moreover, she |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | has led the school's gifted and talented program, and she has served |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | as a mentor to a number of her fellow educators; a firm believer in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | lifelong learning, she continues to seek professional growth |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | opportunities and new ways to elevate her teaching, and she was |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | named the 2014 Teacher of the Year; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Augusta Dixon exemplifies the passion, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Augusta McCray Dixon on her 40th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | anniversary as a teacher at Booker T. Washington Elementary School |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | and extend to her sincere appreciation for making a positive |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | difference in the lives of countless young Texans; and, be it |
