77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Lee Corso, a legendary host on ESPN's College
99 GameDay who has captivated audiences with his showmanship and
1010 astute knowledge of football during an illustrious career of nearly
1111 four decades, will make his final broadcast at the start of the 2025
1212 season; and
1313 WHEREAS, A mainstay of the popular weekly college football
1414 pregame show since it debuted in 1987, Mr. Corso is most famous for
1515 his headgear picks; the tradition began on October 5, 1996, when he
1616 accurately predicted that No. 3 Ohio State would defeat No. 4 Penn
1717 State by ceremoniously donning a Brutus Buckeye mascot head; in
1818 total, he has made 430 headgear picks, posting an impressive
1919 overall record of 286-144; his final broadcast will take place on
2020 August 30, three weeks after his 90th birthday; and
2121 WHEREAS, Mr. Corso has entertained crowds on more than 70
2222 college campuses; during prediction disagreements, he is known for
2323 delivering his signature catchphrase of "Not so fast, my friend!"
2424 while clutching a No. 2 pencil, and other iconic moments that will
2525 endure include him dancing with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish's
2626 leprechaun, riding a motorcycle with the Oregon Duck, debating game
2727 picks with pop music star Katy Perry, and wrestling with actors Bill
2828 Murray and Will Ferrell; additionally, he has dressed as such
2929 figures as Ben Franklin and Elvis Presley; and
3030 WHEREAS, Before his broadcasting career, Mr. Corso was a head
3131 football coach at the college and professional levels, including 17
3232 seasons at the helm for the University of Louisville, Indiana and
3333 Northern Illinois Universities, and the Orlando Renegades of the
3434 United States Football League; in the 1950s, he was a defensive back
3535 at Florida State, where for two decades after his graduation, he
3636 held the school record for career interceptions; and
3737 WHEREAS, Among his accolades, Mr. Corso is a member of the
3838 athletic Halls of Fame at Florida State, Louisville, and Indiana,
3939 the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, and the Kentucky Athletic Hall of
4040 Fame; in 2006, he entered the Florida State University Alumni
4141 Association's Circle of Gold, and in 2010, he received the National
4242 College Football Awards Association Contributions Award; and
4343 WHEREAS, Lee Corso has demonstrated a remarkable talent for
4444 expert analysis over the course of his exceptional broadcasting
4545 career, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many
4646 contributions to college football; now, therefore, be it
4747 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4848 Legislature hereby honor Lee Corso for his 38-year career as an ESPN
4949 College GameDay host and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
5050 future; and, be it further
5151 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5252 prepared for Mr. Corso as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5353 House of Representatives.
