77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Dale Susan Eastman of Houston, a staunch advocate
99 for breast cancer patients, passed away on April 16, 2025, at the
1010 age of 84; and
1111 WHEREAS, Born on February 15, 1941, Dale Eastman was 49 years
1212 old when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer, an experience
1313 that drove her to dedicate the rest of her life to supporting all
1414 those affected by the disease; in 1992, she partnered with three
1515 other breast cancer survivors to found the Alamo Breast Cancer
1616 Foundation; under her able leadership, the organization saw
1717 significant growth, offering screening and financial assistance, a
1818 resource helpline, educational programs, and research funding, as
1919 well as conducting legislative advocacy work; the foundation joined
2020 the board of the National Breast Cancer Coalition as a member
2121 organization in 1994; and
2222 WHEREAS, Mrs. Eastman was deeply involved in NBCC, where she
2323 served on the board of directors for two decades; in 1997, she
2424 became a Texas field coordinator and began managing the Texas
2525 Action Network, and in 2003, she was one of the first to be invited
2626 to join the organization's network of team leaders; in addition,
2727 she served as chair of advocacy and government relations for the
2828 Alamo group, and she represented NBCC at the White House; and
2929 WHEREAS, A champion for breast cancer awareness,
3030 Mrs. Eastman helped to establish the Patient Advocate Program at
3131 the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, ensuring that trained
3232 activists were involved in one of the most important gatherings of
3333 breast cancer researchers; she also worked directly with lawmakers
3434 at the state and federal levels to expand access to medical services
3535 and to alleviate health care costs for patients; her numerous other
3636 affiliations included the advisory board of the National Institute
3737 of Environmental Health Sciences, the Breast Cancer and the
3838 Environment Working Group, and the National Institutes of Health
3939 Collaborative Summit on Breast Cancer Research; and
4040 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Eastman enjoyed the love
4141 and support of her husband, Dr. Harry Eastman, with whom she shared
4242 a rewarding marriage that spanned nearly six decades; she took
4343 great pride in their three children, Andy, Brad, and Robin, and over
4444 the years, she had the pleasure of welcoming into her family five
4545 grandchildren; and
4646 WHEREAS, Dale Eastman impacted countless lives through her
4747 efforts in behalf of individuals with breast cancer, and her
4848 integrity, determination, and compassion will remain a lasting
4949 source of inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her;
5050 now, therefore, be it
5151 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
5252 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dale Susan Eastman
5353 and extend heartfelt sympathy to her family and many friends; and,
5454 be it further
5555 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5656 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5757 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dale
5858 Eastman.
