8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |
---|
9 | 9 | | memories of James Steven Strain, who passed away on September 19, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 2024, at the age of 68; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of Carolyn and James Strain, Steve Strain |
---|
12 | 12 | | was born on January 16, 1956, in Abilene, where he grew up alongside |
---|
13 | 13 | | his siblings, Jayne and Kent; he attended Cooper High School and |
---|
14 | 14 | | continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin; |
---|
15 | 15 | | there, he studied business with an engineering minor and formed |
---|
16 | 16 | | close friendships with his brothers in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon |
---|
17 | 17 | | fraternity; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. Strain returned to Abilene to join his |
---|
19 | 19 | | family's highway construction company, J. H. Strain & Sons; he |
---|
20 | 20 | | eventually took over the company and grew it into a thriving |
---|
21 | 21 | | four-generation business; active in his professional community, he |
---|
22 | 22 | | was an area chair of the Association of General Contractors, and he |
---|
23 | 23 | | contributed to his fellow citizens through leadership roles with |
---|
24 | 24 | | various organizations, including The National Exchange Club and |
---|
25 | 25 | | Serenity House; he also served on the board of Saint Paul United |
---|
26 | 26 | | Methodist Church and volunteered extensively with the Episcopal |
---|
27 | 27 | | Church of the Heavenly Rest; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Valuing family above all else, Mr. Strain was a |
---|
29 | 29 | | devoted husband to his wife, Cindy, and he took great pride in his |
---|
30 | 30 | | two sons, Ross and Whit; with the passing years, he had the |
---|
31 | 31 | | privilege of seeing his family grow to include his two |
---|
32 | 32 | | grandchildren, Austin and Alex; his life was further enriched by |
---|
33 | 33 | | his wide circle of friends; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Steve Strain |
---|
35 | 35 | | will remember the way he touched their lives with his warmth, |
---|
36 | 36 | | kindness, and delightful sense of humor, and he will forever hold a |
---|
37 | 37 | | treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Steven Strain |
---|
40 | 40 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, |
