77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
99 memories of James Steven Strain, who passed away on September 19,
1010 2024, at the age of 68; and
1111 WHEREAS, The son of Carolyn and James Strain, Steve Strain
1212 was born on January 16, 1956, in Abilene, where he grew up alongside
1313 his siblings, Jayne and Kent; he attended Cooper High School and
1414 continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin;
1515 there, he studied business with an engineering minor and formed
1616 close friendships with his brothers in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon
1717 fraternity; and
1818 WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. Strain returned to Abilene to join his
1919 family's highway construction company, J. H. Strain & Sons; he
2020 eventually took over the company and grew it into a thriving
2121 four-generation business; active in his professional community, he
2222 was an area chair of the Association of General Contractors, and he
2323 contributed to his fellow citizens through leadership roles with
2424 various organizations, including The National Exchange Club and
2525 Serenity House; he also served on the board of Saint Paul United
2626 Methodist Church and volunteered extensively with the Episcopal
2727 Church of the Heavenly Rest; and
2828 WHEREAS, Valuing family above all else, Mr. Strain was a
2929 devoted husband to his wife, Cindy, and he took great pride in his
3030 two sons, Ross and Whit; with the passing years, he had the
3131 privilege of seeing his family grow to include his two
3232 grandchildren, Austin and Alex; his life was further enriched by
3333 his wide circle of friends; and
3434 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Steve Strain
3535 will remember the way he touched their lives with his warmth,
3636 kindness, and delightful sense of humor, and he will forever hold a
3737 treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3939 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Steven Strain
4040 and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and,
4141 be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Steve
4545 Strain.
