77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Berna Dean Steptoe is retiring from WFAA in Dallas
99 on May 1, 2025, concluding a noteworthy career spanning 33 years
1010 with the television station; and
1111 WHEREAS, A member of the WFAA political team, Ms. Steptoe
1212 produces and provides analysis for its weekly program, Inside Texas
1313 Politics, which airs on 11 stations; in 2019, she accepted the
1414 station's Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television
1515 Political Journalism at the ceremony held by the National Press
1616 Club in Washington, D.C.; she also writes for the station's website
1717 and offers in-depth analysis on WFAA's digital political program;
1818 in addition, she has been in demand as a public speaker; and
1919 WHEREAS, Before joining WFAA, Ms. Steptoe was employed as an
2020 editorial columnist for The Dallas Examiner; she focused on
2121 politics, government, and community issues; previously, she worked
2222 in newspaper sales at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Dallas Times
2323 Herald and pursued entrepreneurship; and
2424 WHEREAS, Ms. Steptoe is a graduate of Huston-Tillotson
2525 University; highly engaged in the Dallas Chapter of its alumni
2626 association, she has held a number of leadership roles; in
2727 addition, she is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
2828 Incorporated, and she serves on several boards; and
2929 WHEREAS, Over the course of her long career in journalism,
3030 Berna Dean Steptoe has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to
3131 informing and enlightening the public, and as she embarks on the
3232 next exciting chapter of her life, she may indeed reflect with pride
3333 on her contributions; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3535 Legislature hereby congratulate Berna Dean Steptoe on her
3636 retirement from WFAA and extend to her sincere best wishes for the
3737 future; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for Ms. Steptoe as an expression of high regard by the
4040 Texas House of Representatives.
