66 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
77 AN ACT
88 relating to participation in the governor's university research
99 initiative.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 62.161(2), Education Code, is amended to
1212 read as follows:
1313 (2) "Eligible institution" means a general academic
1414 teaching institution ,private or independent institution of higher
1515 education, or medical and dental unit.
1616 SECTION 2. Section 62.163, Education Code, is amended to
1717 read as follows:
1818 (d) A matching grant may not be used by an eligible
1919 institution to recruit a distinguished researcher from[:
2020 (1)] another eligible institution[; or
2121 (2) a private or independent institution of higher
2222 education].
2323 SECTION 3. The changes made to Sections 62.161(2) and
2424 62.163(d), Education Code, as amended by this Act, applies only to
2525 an agreement entered into under Subchapter H, Chapter 62, Education
2626 Code, on or after the effective date of this Act.
2727 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2828 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2929 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3030 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3131 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
