| 9 | 9 | | relating to permitted forms of identification for the purpose of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | accepting a voter. |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 63.0101(a), Election Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (a) The following documentation is an acceptable form of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | photo identification under this chapter: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) one of the following forms of identification |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | issued to the person by the Department of Public Safety that has not |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | expired or that expired no earlier than one year before the date of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | presentation: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (A) a driver's license, not including a driver's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | license subject to Section 521.271(a-2), 521.271(a-3), |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | 521.271(a-4), or 521.2711(c), Transportation Code; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (B) an election identification certificate;[,] |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | or |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (C) a personal identification card [issued to the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | person by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | that expired no earlier than four years before the date of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | presentation]; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (2) a United States military identification card that |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | contains the person's photograph that has not expired or that |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | expired no earlier than four years before the date of presentation; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (3) a United States citizenship certificate issued to |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the person that contains the person's photograph; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (4) a United States passport book or card issued to the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | person that has not expired or that expired no earlier than four |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | years before the date of presentation; or |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | (5) a license to carry a handgun issued to the person |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or that |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | expired no earlier than four years before the date of presentation. |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | an election ordered on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
