77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the creation and elimination of certain state holidays.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1212 to read as follows:
1313 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1414 (1) [the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes
1515 Day," in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other
1616 Confederate heroes;
1717 [(2)] the second day of March, "Texas Independence
1818 Day";
1919 (2) [(3)] the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
2020 (3) [(4)] the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in
2121 Texas," in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2222 (4) the 28th day of June, "Celebration of Suffrage
2323 Day," in honor of the centuries-long struggle to bring the right of
2424 suffrage to all Americans;
2525 (5) the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines Johnson
2626 Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines Johnson;
2727 (6) the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
2828 (7) the 24th day of December; and
2929 (8) the 26th day of December.
3030 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
