77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to requiring an occupational license to practice magnetic
1010 resonance imaging physics.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 602.002, Occupations Code, is amended by
1313 amending Subdivisions (5-a) and (12) and adding Subdivision (5-b)
1414 to read as follows:
1515 (5-a) "Magnetic resonance imaging physics" means the
1616 branch of medical physics that deals with radiofrequency radiation
1717 and the use of equipment associated with the production and use of
1818 radiofrequency radiation.
1919 (5-b) "Medical board" means the Texas Medical Board.
2020 (12) "Radiological physics" means the branch of
2121 medical physics that includes:
2222 (A) diagnostic radiological physics;
2323 (B) magnetic resonance imaging physics;
2424 (C) medical health physics;
2525 (D) [(C)] medical nuclear physics; and
2626 (E) [(D)] therapeutic radiological physics.
2727 SECTION 2. Section 602.201(b), Occupations Code, is amended
2828 to read as follows:
2929 (b) A medical physicist may not practice the following
3030 specialties unless the person holds a license for that specialty:
3131 (1) diagnostic radiological physics;
3232 (2) magnetic resonance imaging physics;
3333 (3) medical health physics;
3434 (4) [(3)] medical nuclear physics; or
3535 (5) [(4)] therapeutic radiological physics.
3636 SECTION 3. As soon as practicable after the effective date
3737 of this Act, the Texas Medical Board shall adopt rules necessary to
3838 implement the changes in law made by this Act to Chapter 602,
3939 Occupations Code.
4040 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
