| 16 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 17 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 61, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 18 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 61.06696 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 19 | 15 | | Sec. 61.06696. STUDY AND REPORT ON HEALTH PHYSICS |
|---|
| 20 | 16 | | EDUCATION. (a) The board, in collaboration with the Texas |
|---|
| 21 | 17 | | Workforce Commission, shall conduct a study on health physics |
|---|
| 22 | 18 | | education in this state. |
|---|
| 23 | 19 | | (b) The study must: |
|---|
| 24 | 20 | | (1) identify gaps in health physics training programs |
|---|
| 25 | 21 | | provided by institutions of higher education; and |
|---|
| 26 | 22 | | (2) assess workforce needs in the nuclear energy and |
|---|
| 27 | 23 | | radiological safety sectors. |
|---|
| 28 | 24 | | (c) Not later than December 1, 2026, the board shall prepare |
|---|
| 29 | 25 | | and submit to each standing committee of the senate and house of |
|---|
| 30 | 26 | | representatives having primary jurisdiction over higher education |
|---|
| 31 | 27 | | or workforce development a written report that: |
|---|
| 32 | 28 | | (1) summarizes the results of the study conducted |
|---|
| 33 | 29 | | under this section; and |
|---|
| 34 | 30 | | (2) includes recommendations for legislative or other |
|---|
| 35 | 31 | | action based on the results of the study. |
|---|
| 36 | 32 | | (d) This section expires September 1, 2027. |
|---|
| 37 | 33 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 38 | 34 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 39 | 35 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 40 | 36 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 41 | 37 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
