77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to safety training for certain public school
1010 extracurricular activities.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 33.202(c), Education Code, is amended to
1313 read as follows:
1414 (c) The safety training program must include:
1515 (1) certification of participants by the American Red
1616 Cross, the American Heart Association, or a similar organization or
1717 by the University Interscholastic League;
1818 (2) current training in:
1919 (A) emergency action planning;
2020 (B) communicating effectively with 9-1-1
2121 emergency service operators and other emergency personnel; and
2222 (C) recognizing symptoms of potentially
2323 catastrophic injuries, including head and neck injuries,
2424 concussions, injuries related to second impact syndrome, asthma
2525 attacks, heatstroke, rhabdomyolysis, cardiac arrest, and injuries
2626 requiring use of a defibrillator; and
2727 (3) a safety drill that incorporates the training
2828 described by Subdivision (2) and simulates various injuries
2929 described by Subdivision (2)(C).
3030 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026
3131 school year.
3232 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3333 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3434 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3535 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3636 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
