11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 28.0023(e), Education Code, is amended | |
13 | 13 | to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | (e) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation instruction must include | |
15 | 15 | training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques and training | |
16 | 16 | in the use of an automated external defibrillator and must | |
17 | 17 | incorporate psychomotor skills to support the instruction. The | |
18 | 18 | instruction must be [that has been] developed: | |
19 | 19 | (1) by the American Heart Association or the American | |
20 | 20 | Red Cross; or | |
21 | 21 | (2) using nationally recognized, evidence-based | |
22 | 22 | guidelines for emergency cardiovascular care [and incorporating | |
23 | 23 | psychomotor skills to support the instruction]. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | |
25 | 25 | school year. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
27 | 27 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
28 | 28 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
29 | 29 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
30 | 30 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
