77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation in public
1010 schools.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 28.0023(e), Education Code, is amended
1313 to read as follows:
1414 (e) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation instruction must include
1515 training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques and training
1616 in the use of an automated external defibrillator and must
1717 incorporate psychomotor skills to support the instruction. The
1818 instruction must be [that has been] developed:
1919 (1) by the American Heart Association or the American
2020 Red Cross; or
2121 (2) using nationally recognized, evidence-based
2222 guidelines for emergency cardiovascular care [and incorporating
2323 psychomotor skills to support the instruction].
2424 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026
2525 school year.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2727 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2828 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2929 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3030 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
