| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 49.107(a), Water Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (a) A district may levy and collect a tax for operation and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | maintenance purposes, including funds for planning, constructing, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | acquiring, maintaining, repairing, and operating all necessary |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | land, plants, works, facilities, improvements, appliances, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | equipment of the district and for paying costs of proper services, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | engineering and legal fees, [and] organization and administrative |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | expenses, and costs of contracting for or employing peace officers. |

| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
