77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to a substitute teaching requirement for each member of
1010 the senate and the house of representatives.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 301, Government Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 301.074 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 301.074. SUBSTITUTE TEACHING REQUIREMENT. (a) Each
1515 member of the senate and the house of representatives shall
1616 substitute teach at a public school located in the member's
1717 district for at least one school day each school year.
1818 (b) Each member shall report the member's compliance with
1919 Subsection (a) to the senate or house committee on administration,
2020 as applicable. Each committee shall maintain a list of the members
2121 in the committee's respective house who do not meet the
2222 requirements of this section. The list is public information under
2323 Chapter 552.
2424 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply
2525 beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2727 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2828 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2929 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3030 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
