77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the minimum motor vehicle liability insurance coverage
1010 requirement for bodily injury or death or for damage to or
1111 destruction of property of others.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 601.072(a-1), Transportation Code, is
1414 amended to read as follows:
1515 (a-1) Effective January 1, 2026 [2011], the minimum amounts
1616 of motor vehicle liability insurance coverage required to establish
1717 financial responsibility under this chapter are:
1818 (1) $50,000 [$30,000] for bodily injury to or death of
1919 one person in one collision;
2020 (2) $100,000 [$60,000] for bodily injury to or death
2121 of two or more persons in one collision, subject to the amount
2222 provided by Subdivision (1) for bodily injury to or death of one of
2323 the persons; and
2424 (3) $40,000 [$25,000] for damage to or destruction of
2525 property of others in one collision.
2626 SECTION 2. Section 601.072(a-1), Transportation Code, as
2727 amended by this Act, applies only to establishment of financial
2828 responsibility under Chapter 601, Transportation Code, with an
2929 insurance policy delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or
3030 after January 1, 2026. Establishment of financial responsibility
3131 with an insurance policy delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed
3232 before January 1, 2026, is governed by the law as it existed
3333 immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is
3434 continued in effect for that purpose.
3535 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
