611 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
712 AN ACT
813 relating to notice provided by a health care provider before
914 initiating debt collection against a patient.
1015 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1116 SECTION 1. Chapter 185, Health and Safety Code, is amended
1217 by adding Section 185.004 to read as follows:
1318 Sec. 185.004. REQUIRED NOTICE OF DEBT COLLECTION. A health
1419 care provider that intends to pursue debt collection for a health
1520 care service or supply provided to a patient shall provide written
1621 notice to the patient at least 60 days before the date the provider
1722 initiates debt collection.
1823 SECTION 2. Section 185.004, Health and Safety Code, as
1924 added by this Act, applies only to debt collection initiated on or
2025 after the effective date of this Act.
2126 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
