10 | 15 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

11 | 16 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 185, Health and Safety Code, is amended |
---|
12 | 17 | | by adding Section 185.004 to read as follows: |

13 | 18 | | Sec. 185.004. REQUIRED NOTICE OF DEBT COLLECTION. A health |
---|
14 | 19 | | care provider that intends to pursue debt collection for a health |
---|
15 | 20 | | care service or supply provided to a patient shall provide written |
---|
16 | 21 | | notice to the patient at least 60 days before the date the provider |
---|
17 | 22 | | initiates debt collection. |

18 | 23 | | SECTION 2. Section 185.004, Health and Safety Code, as |
---|
19 | 24 | | added by this Act, applies only to debt collection initiated on or |
---|
20 | 25 | | after the effective date of this Act. |
---|
21 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
