69 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
710 AN ACT
811 relating to prohibiting municipal libraries that host certain
912 events from receiving state or other public funding.
1013 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1114 SECTION 1. Chapter 315, Local Government Code, is amended
1215 by adding Section 315.0051 to read as follows:
1316 Sec. 315.0051. PROHIBITED EVENTS AT MUNICIPAL LIBRARIES. A
1417 municipal library may not receive state or other public funds if the
1518 library hosts an event at which a man presenting as a woman or a
1619 woman presenting as a man reads a book or a story to a minor for
1720 entertainment and the person being dressed as the opposite gender
1821 is a primary component of the entertainment. The state and a
1922 political subdivision of the state may not provide funds to the
2023 municipal library for the fiscal year following the year in which
2124 the library hosts an event described by this section.
2225 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2326 to an event that occurs on or after the effective date of this Act.
2427 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
