| 12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Section 501.0921(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 14 | 14 | to read as follows: | |
| 15 | 15 | (a) The department shall adopt a standardized instrument to | |
| 16 | 16 | assess, based on criminogenic factors, the risks and needs of each | |
| 17 | 17 | offender within the adult criminal justice system. The department | |
| 18 | 18 | may adopt a gender-responsive version of the instrument to assess | |
| 19 | 19 | offenders of a specific gender that takes into account factors that | |
| 20 | 20 | particularly affect that gender. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
