| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is | |
| 13 | 13 | amended by adding Section 22.0031 to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | Sec. 22.0031. PERSONAL LEAVE FOR TESTIFYING AT PUBLIC | |
| 15 | 15 | HEARING. (a) In addition to all other days of leave provided by | |
| 16 | 16 | Section 22.003 or by a school district, a classroom teacher is | |
| 17 | 17 | entitled to not less than two days of leave for compensation to | |
| 18 | 18 | testify at a public hearing of a local, state, or federal | |
| 19 | 19 | governmental entity. | |
| 20 | 20 | (b) Days of leave taken under this section may not be | |
| 21 | 21 | deducted from a classroom teacher's accumulated personal leave. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | |
| 23 | 23 | school year. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 25 | 25 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 26 | 26 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 27 | 27 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 28 | 28 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
