77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the prohibited release of personal information
1010 collected during the jury selection process.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 62, Government Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 62.022 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 62.022. PERSONAL INFORMATION CONFIDENTIAL. (a)
1515 Except as provided by Subsection (b), personal information
1616 collected by the court, a party, or a party's attorney during the
1717 jury selection process about a person who reports for jury duty is
1818 confidential and may not be disclosed by the court, a party, a
1919 party's attorney, or any court personnel. Information considered
2020 confidential under this subsection includes:
2121 (1) a person's:
2222 (A) home address;
2323 (B) telephone number;
2424 (C) social security number; and
2525 (D) driver's license number;
2626 (2) information provided in the juror questionnaire
2727 required by Section 62.0132; and
2828 (3) any other personal information.
2929 (b) The court may authorize the disclosure of information
3030 described by Subsection (a) only on submission of an application to
3131 the court showing good cause for the disclosure by:
3232 (1) a party to the proceeding; or
3333 (2) a person acting in the actual discharge of the
3434 person's duties as a member of the news media.
3535 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
3636 to a person who reports for jury duty on or after the effective date
3737 of this Act.
3838 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
