11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | |
13 | 13 | amended by adding Section 28.02521 to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 28.02521. DISCLOSURE OF CLASS RANKINGS. (a) | |
15 | 15 | Notwithstanding any other law, a school district may not disclose | |
16 | 16 | the numerical class rank of a student until the student enters the | |
17 | 17 | 11th grade. A school district may disclose the numerical class rank | |
18 | 18 | of a student in a grade below the 11th grade who demonstrates a | |
19 | 19 | reasonable need to know the student's numerical class rank, | |
20 | 20 | including for purposes of applying to an academic program that | |
21 | 21 | requires disclosure of the student's numerical class rank. | |
22 | 22 | (b) A school district may disclose a student's grade point | |
23 | 23 | average and percentile rank at any time. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | |
25 | 25 | school year. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
27 | 27 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
28 | 28 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
29 | 29 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
30 | 30 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
