9 | 9 | | recognize service to the people of Texas. |

10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subtitle A, Title 11, Government Code, is |
---|
12 | 12 | | amended by adding Chapter 3108 to read as follows: |
---|
13 | 13 | | CHAPTER 3108. GOVERNOR'S MEDAL OF SERVICE AWARD |
---|
14 | 14 | | Sec. 3108.001. GOVERNOR'S MEDAL OF SERVICE AWARD. (a) The |
---|
15 | 15 | | Governor's Medal of Service award may be awarded to a resident of |
---|
16 | 16 | | this state who: |
---|
17 | 17 | | (1) honorably retired from a position of public |
---|
18 | 18 | | service in state or local government; |
---|
19 | 19 | | (2) contributed to the residents of this state in an |
---|
20 | 20 | | extraordinary way through the individual's work in the private |
---|
21 | 21 | | sector; or |
---|
22 | 22 | | (3) contributed to the residents of this state in an |
---|
23 | 23 | | extraordinary way as a member of the Texas Legislature. |
---|
24 | 24 | | (b) The governor may, at the governor's discretion, award |
---|
25 | 25 | | not more than two Governor's Medal of Service awards each year. |
---|
26 | 26 | | Sec. 3108.002. GIFTS. The office of the governor may |
---|
27 | 27 | | solicit and accept gifts, grants, and donations from any public or |
---|
28 | 28 | | private source for any expenses related to the administration of |
---|
29 | 29 | | the Governor's Medal of Service award, including establishing the |
---|
30 | 30 | | award. |
---|
31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
---|
