| 10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 31, Education Code, is | |
| 12 | 12 | amended by adding Section 31.004 to read as follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | Sec. 31.004. (a) Instructional material selected for use | |
| 14 | 14 | in public schools: | |
| 15 | 15 | (1) shall refer to years as being "BC" or "AD," as | |
| 16 | 16 | appropriate; and | |
| 17 | 17 | (2) shall not refer to years as being "BCE" or "CE." | |
| 18 | 18 | (b) This section does not prohibit the use of instructional | |
| 19 | 19 | material that explains the meaning of "BCE" or "CE." | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
| 21 | 21 | to instructional material acquired on or after the effective date | |
| 22 | 22 | of this Act. Instructional material acquired before the effective | |
| 23 | 23 | date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the | |
| 24 | 24 | instructional material was acquired, and the former law is | |
| 25 | 25 | continued in effect for that purpose. | |
| 26 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
