11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Chapter 9, Local Government Code, is amended by | |
13 | 13 | adding Section 9.009 to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 9.009. PROHIBITION ON CHARTER PROVISIONS RELATED TO | |
15 | 15 | NUMBER OF MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES. (a) A charter may not require the | |
16 | 16 | municipality or a department of the municipality to employ a | |
17 | 17 | minimum or maximum number of employees, including peace officers | |
18 | 18 | and firefighters. | |
19 | 19 | (b) Any provision of a charter that violates Subsection (a) | |
20 | 20 | is void. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
22 | 22 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
23 | 23 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
24 | 24 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
25 | 25 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
