11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. This Act may be cited as the Wade Cannon Act. | |
13 | 13 | SECTION 2. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended | |
14 | 14 | by adding Section 180.011 to read as follows: | |
15 | 15 | Sec. 180.011. OCCUPATIONAL CANCER SCREENING FOR | |
16 | 16 | FIREFIGHTERS. (a) In this section, "firefighter" means an | |
17 | 17 | individual defined as fire protection personnel under Section | |
18 | 18 | 419.021, Government Code. | |
19 | 19 | (b) A political subdivision that employs firefighters shall | |
20 | 20 | offer an occupational cancer screening to each firefighter at no | |
21 | 21 | cost to the firefighter in the fifth year of the firefighter's | |
22 | 22 | employment, and once every three years following the initial | |
23 | 23 | screening. | |
24 | 24 | (c) The occupational cancer screening must be confidential | |
25 | 25 | and test for each type of cancer, including: | |
26 | 26 | (1) colorectal cancer; | |
27 | 27 | (2) prostate cancer, if applicable; | |
28 | 28 | (3) lung cancer; and | |
29 | 29 | (4) brain cancer. | |
30 | 30 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
