77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to extensions of a deadline to comply with a municipal
1010 order for a substandard building in certain municipalities.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 214.001, Local Government Code, is
1313 amended by adding Subsection (k-1) to read as follows:
1414 (k-1) A municipality with a population of two million or
1515 more may only provide two 90-day extensions to allow the owner,
1616 lienholder, or mortgagee more than 30 days to repair, remove, or
1717 demolish the building or fully perform all work required to comply
1818 with the order. To be eligible for an extension, the owner,
1919 lienholder, or mortgagee must:
2020 (1) for the initial extension, request the extension
2121 in good faith; and
2222 (2) for the second extension, request the extension by
2323 demonstrating hardship.
2424 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
