10 | 10 | order for a substandard building in certain municipalities. | |
11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 214.001, Local Government Code, is | |
13 | 13 | amended by adding Subsection (k-1) to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | (k-1) A municipality with a population of two million or | |
15 | 15 | more may only provide two 90-day extensions to allow the owner, | |
16 | 16 | lienholder, or mortgagee more than 30 days to repair, remove, or | |
17 | 17 | demolish the building or fully perform all work required to comply | |
18 | 18 | with the order. To be eligible for an extension, the owner, | |
19 | 19 | lienholder, or mortgagee must: | |
20 | 20 | (1) for the initial extension, request the extension | |
21 | 21 | in good faith; and | |
22 | 22 | (2) for the second extension, request the extension by | |
23 | 23 | demonstrating hardship. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
