147 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
158 AN ACT
169 relating to the accreditation of law schools in this state.
1710 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1811 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is
1912 amended by adding Section 51.984 to read as follows:
2013 Sec. 51.984. LAW SCHOOL ACCREDITATION. (a) In this
2114 section, "institution of higher education" and "private or
2215 independent institution of higher education" have the meanings
2316 assigned by Section 61.003.
2417 (b) A law school at an institution of higher education or
2518 private or independent institution of higher education must be
2619 accredited by an accreditor recognized by the United States
27- Department of Education or its successor of interest for the
28- purposes of institutional accreditation of law schools.
20+ Department of Education for the purposes of institutional
21+ accreditation of law schools.
2922 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3023 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3124 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3225 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3326 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
