11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Not later than March 1, 2024, the State Board of | |
13 | 13 | Education shall revise the essential knowledge and skills for | |
14 | 14 | social studies as necessary to require, as age and grade-level | |
15 | 15 | appropriate, instruction in: | |
16 | 16 | (1) the history of persons with disabilities; and | |
17 | 17 | (2) the disability rights movement in the United | |
18 | 18 | States. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
