9 | 9 | relating to the deferment of property taxes for certain individuals | |
10 | 10 | and the reduction of the eligible age for tax deferral. | |
11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 33.06(a), Tax Code, is amended to read as | |
13 | 13 | follows: | |
14 | 14 | (a) An individual is entitled to defer collection of a tax, | |
15 | 15 | abate a suit to collect a delinquent tax, or abate a sale to | |
16 | 16 | foreclose a tax lien if: | |
17 | 17 | (1) the individual: | |
18 | 18 | (A) is 60 [65] years of age or older; | |
19 | 19 | (B) is disabled as defined by Section 11.13(m); | |
20 | 20 | or | |
21 | 21 | (C) is qualified to receive an exemption under | |
22 | 22 | Section 11.22; and | |
23 | 23 | (2) the tax was imposed against property that the | |
24 | 24 | individual owns and occupies as a residence homestead. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
26 | 26 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
27 | 27 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
28 | 28 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
29 | 29 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
