77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the deferment of property taxes for certain individuals
1010 and the reduction of the eligible age for tax deferral.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 33.06(a), Tax Code, is amended to read as
1313 follows:
1414 (a) An individual is entitled to defer collection of a tax,
1515 abate a suit to collect a delinquent tax, or abate a sale to
1616 foreclose a tax lien if:
1717 (1) the individual:
1818 (A) is 60 [65] years of age or older;
1919 (B) is disabled as defined by Section 11.13(m);
2020 or
2121 (C) is qualified to receive an exemption under
2222 Section 11.22; and
2323 (2) the tax was imposed against property that the
2424 individual owns and occupies as a residence homestead.
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
