77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to abolishing Confederate Heroes Day.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 1.006(f)(2), Election Code, is amended
1212 to read as follows:
1313 (2) "State holiday" means a state holiday under
1414 Sections 662.003(b)(1) through (5) [(6)], Government Code.
1515 SECTION 2. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1616 to read as follows:
1717 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1818 (1) [the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes
1919 Day," in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other
2020 Confederate heroes;
2121 [(2)] the second day of March, "Texas Independence
2222 Day";
2323 (2) [(3)] the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
2424 (3) [(4)] the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in
2525 Texas," in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2626 (4) [(5)] the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines
2727 Johnson Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines
2828 Johnson;
2929 (5) [(6)] the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
3030 (6) [(7)] the 24th day of December; and
3131 (7) [(8)] the 26th day of December.
3232 SECTION 3. Section 662.021, Government Code, is amended to
3333 read as follows:
3434 Sec. 662.021. DATES OF HOLIDAYS. A legal holiday includes
3535 only the following days:
3636 (1) a national holiday under Section 662.003(a); and
3737 (2) a state holiday under Sections 662.003(b)(1)
3838 through (5) [(6)].
3939 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
