| 8 | 8 | | relating to the qualifications for serving as a member of the board |

| 9 | 9 | | of directors of a municipal utility district. |

| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 54.102, Water Code, is amended to read as |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 54.102. QUALIFICATIONS FOR DIRECTORS. To be qualified |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to serve as a director, a person shall: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) be at least 18 years old; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) be [,] a resident citizen of the State of Texas; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | [,] and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (3) own land subject to taxation in the district or |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | have a principal residence in the district[or be a qualified voter |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | within the district]. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act does not |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | affect the entitlement of a member serving immediately before the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | effective date of this Act on the board of directors of a district |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to which Section 54.102, Water Code, applies to continue to carry |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | out the board's functions for the remainder of the member's term. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | The change in law applies only to a member of the board of directors |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of such a district elected or appointed on or after the effective |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | date of this Act. This Act does not prohibit a person who is a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | member of the board of directors of such a district on the effective |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | date of this Act from being reelected or reappointed to the board if |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the person has the qualifications required for a member under |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Section 54.102, Water Code, as amended by this Act. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
