66 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
77 AN ACT
88 relating to the essential knowledge and skills of the
99 technology applications curriculum for public school students.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 28.002(c-3), Education Code, is amended
1212 to read as follows:
1313 (c-3) In adopting the essential knowledge and skills for the
1414 technology applications curriculum for kindergarten through grade
1515 eight, the State Board of Education shall adopt essential knowledge
1616 and skills that include Internet safety and keyboard use. The board
1717 may not adopt essential knowledge and skills for the technology
1818 applications curriculum for kindergarten through grade five that
1919 include coding, computer programming, computational thinking, or
2020 [and] cybersecurity, or that would require the use of electronic
2121 devices, digital instruction, or the Internet, for any purpose
2222 other than as necessary for Internet safety curriculum or keyboard
2323 use curriculum. The State Board of Education shall review and
2424 revise, as needed, the essential knowledge and skills of the
2525 technology applications curriculum every five years to ensure the
2626 curriculum:
2727 (1) is relevant to student education; and
2828 (2) aligns with current or emerging professions.
2929 SECTION 2. Not later than December 31, 2026, the State Board
3030 of Education shall review and revise, as needed, the essential
3131 knowledge and skills of the technology applications curriculum as
3232 required by Section 28.002(c-3), Education Code, as amended by this
3333 Act.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
