| 9 | 9 | | technology applications curriculum for public school students. |

| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 28.002(c-3), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (c-3) In adopting the essential knowledge and skills for the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | technology applications curriculum for kindergarten through grade |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | eight, the State Board of Education shall adopt essential knowledge |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and skills that include Internet safety and keyboard use. The board |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | may not adopt essential knowledge and skills for the technology |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | applications curriculum for kindergarten through grade five that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | include coding, computer programming, computational thinking, or |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | [and] cybersecurity, or that would require the use of electronic |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | devices, digital instruction, or the Internet, for any purpose |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | other than as necessary for Internet safety curriculum or keyboard |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | use curriculum. The State Board of Education shall review and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | revise, as needed, the essential knowledge and skills of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | technology applications curriculum every five years to ensure the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | curriculum: |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (1) is relevant to student education; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (2) aligns with current or emerging professions. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. Not later than December 31, 2026, the State Board |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of Education shall review and revise, as needed, the essential |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | knowledge and skills of the technology applications curriculum as |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | required by Section 28.002(c-3), Education Code, as amended by this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
