77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the amount of the exemption from ad valorem taxation to
1010 which certain disabled veterans are entitled.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 11.22(a), Tax Code, is amended to read as
1313 follows:
1414 (a) A disabled veteran is entitled to an exemption from
1515 taxation of the following applicable [a] portion of the assessed
1616 value of a property the veteran owns and designates as provided by
1717 Subsection (f) [in accordance with the following schedule]:
1818 (1) $30,000 for a veteran having a disability rating
1919 of at least 10 percent but less than 30 percent;
2020 (2) $40,000 for a veteran having a disability rating
2121 of at least 30 percent but less than 50 percent;
2222 (3) $50,000 for a veteran having a disability rating
2323 of at least 50 percent but less than 70 percent; or
2424 (4) $100,000 for a veteran having a disability rating
2525 of 70 percent or more.

4040 SECTION 2. This Act applies only to ad valorem taxes imposed
4141 for a tax year that begins on or after the effective date of this
4242 Act.
4343 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect January 1, 2026, but only
4444 if the constitutional amendment proposed by the 89th Legislature,
4545 Regular Session, 2025, authorizing the legislature to increase the
4646 amount of the exemption from ad valorem taxation of property owned
4747 by certain disabled veterans is approved by the voters. If that
4848 amendment is not approved by the voters, this Act has no effect.
