87 AN ACT
98 relating to confirmation of a voter's residence by a voter
109 registrar.
1110 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1211 SECTION 1. Section 15.051(a), Election Code, is amended to
1312 read as follows:
1413 (a) The [If the registrar has reason to believe that a
1514 voter's current residence is different from that indicated on the
1615 registration records, or that the voter's residence address is a
1716 commercial post office box or similar location that does not
1817 correspond to a residence, the] registrar shall deliver to a [the]
1918 voter a written confirmation notice requesting confirmation of the
2019 voter's current residence if:
2120 (1) the voter's residence address is a commercial post
2221 office box or similar location that does not correspond to a
2322 residence;
2423 (2) on November 30 following a general election:
2524 (A) the voter's name is not on the suspense list;
2625 and
2726 (B) the voter has not voted in any election
2827 during the previous 25 months; or
2928 (3) the registrar has any other reason to believe that
3029 a voter's current residence is different from that indicated on the
3130 registration records.
3231 SECTION 2. If the 89th Legislature, Regular Session, 2025,
3332 appropriates money to the secretary of state for the purpose of
3433 providing additional funding for counties to administer the
3534 requirements of this Act, the secretary of state may allocate the
3635 appropriated amount to county voter registrars to defray the
3736 expenses incurred by the registrars to comply with the requirements
3837 of this Act.
3938 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
