12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended | |
14 | 14 | by adding Section 180.0055 to read as follows: | |
15 | 15 | Sec. 180.0055. ELIGIBILITY OF CERTAIN ELECTED OR APPOINTED | |
16 | 16 | OFFICERS TO HOLD CERTAIN OTHER OFFICES. (a) This section applies | |
17 | 17 | only to an elected or appointed office of a political subdivision | |
18 | 18 | authorized to impose a tax or issue bonds. This section applies only | |
19 | 19 | to the extent it does not conflict with a provision of the state | |
20 | 20 | constitution. | |
21 | 21 | (b) An officer who holds an office to which this section | |
22 | 22 | applies is not eligible to hold at the same time another office to | |
23 | 23 | which this section applies. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 2. Not later than the effective date of this Act, an | |
25 | 25 | officer who holds more than one office in violation of Section | |
26 | 26 | 180.0055, Local Government Code, as added by this Act, shall | |
27 | 27 | resign, effective on that date, from each office necessary to allow | |
28 | 28 | the officer to be in compliance with the requirement of that | |
29 | 29 | section. | |
30 | 30 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
